Kurzbiographie
Emine Fişek ist Studienleiterin am Institut für Stadt- und Regionalforschung (ISR) der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften. Die gebürtige Istanbulerin erwarb ihren Bachelor in englischer Literatur und Theater am Swarthmore College und promovierte in Performance Studies an der University of California-Berkeley.
Fişeks Forschungsschwerpunkt liegt im Verhältnis von Theater und Politik, mit besonderem Augenmerk auf Fragen von Migration, Gemeinschaft und Erinnerung. Ihr erstes Buch, Aesthetic Citizenship: Immigration and Theater in Twenty-First-Century Paris (Northwestern University Press, 2017), befasste sich mit der Rolle, die Theateraufführungen bei der Auseinandersetzung mit Einwanderung, Staatsbürgerschaft und nationaler Identität in Paris zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts spielten. Ihr zweites Buch, Theatre & Community (Bloomsbury Publishing, 2019), wurde im Rahmen der Theatre &Book Series veröffentlicht und untersuchte die Geschichte der Gemeinschaft als künstlerisches oder politisches Ideal im Theater. Fişek hat Artikel in Theatre Journal, Theatre Research International, Text and Performance Quarterly, Comparative Drama und French Cultural Studies veröffentlicht. Ihre aktuelle Forschung befasst sich mit den Auswirkungen, die kulturelles Gedächtnis, urbaner Wandel und internationale Migration auf das Theater in der Türkei des 21. Jahrhunderts hatten.
Von 2023 bis 2028 wird Fişek Studienleiterin eines standortübergreifenden, kollaborativen Forschungsprojekts zum Thema "Theatre and Gentrification in the European City" sein, dass durch das ERC Grant-Programm des Europäischen Forschungsrats finanziert wird.
Bevor sie an das ISR kam, war Fişek Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow am Department of German and Romance Languages and Literatures der Johns Hopkins University (2010-2012) und Assistant (2012-2020) und Associate (2020-2023) Professor am Department of Western Languages and Literatures an der Boğaziçi University.
